President Donald Trump's most recent attempt to drum up support for Republicans ahead of the midterms astounded his niece.

Mary Trump, a psychologist and author, argued in a new Substack essay that Trump's demand that his supporters vote by mail in the upcoming midterm elections was a sign of how desperate Trump has become. The president has railed against mail-in voting throughout his second term despite voting by mail in local Florida elections, according to reports. Trump has even asked the Supreme Court to allow him to implement new rules restricting mail-in ballots, a plea the High Court rejected.

"Wow. That is a very different message from one that was coming out of the White House over the weekend concerning mail-in voting," Mary Trump wrote.

"Wait a minute. I thought voting by mail, unless of course you’re Donald, was illegal," she added.

Mary Trump also noted that Trump backpedaling on his attacks against mail-in voting is an example that "his lies are completely self-serving and designed to make you not believe your own lived experience."

"Almost everything that is going wrong in this country right now is the direct result of actions Donald has taken, supported by the entirety of the Republican Party," she wrote.

"And I think this is by design. It’s all designed to make the rest of us poor, tired, stressed out, and sick so that we are not going to be able to get our acts together to combat the horrible policies that the Republicans keep wanting to enact," Mary Trump added.
