Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), once one of President Donald Trump’s most loyal allies in Congress, said on Wednesday that the Republican Party has no future unless it cuts ties with him.
“If the GOP wants any chance in the future, it will have to kick Donald Trump out of the party,” Greene posted on X after Democrats won control of the House and Senate.
“He has absolutely destroyed it and the current state of the GOP is warmongering, corrupt, corporate focused, entity that does not at all reflect the conservative values of its voters. It’s s lie,” she wrote.
Greene doubted her former colleagues would follow her advice.
“But I highly doubt they will do it. Many elected Republicans only won because of his endorsement,” she wrote. “And those in his administration are going to defend him and stay loyal in hopes for pardons. They will probably blame everyone and everything else and continue to worship Trump.”
“And if that remains their course, the Republican party won’t be able to win nationally for decades,” she added.
Hours earlier, Greene called the election “a total referendum on Trump.”
“He told people to vote like he was on the ballot and they did,” she wrote. She then ran through a list of grievances, accusing Trump of covering up “the Epstein files protecting rapists and pedophiles.” She also said he had put “his rich elite donors before the struggling Americans who put him in office,” made “life unaffordable with his tariffs,” and caused “gas and diesel prices to skyrocket while he played the market and sold crypto.”
“And Republicans stood behind him silently clapping like trained baby seals,” Greene wrote.
She also brought up her own falling-out with the president. “And Trump ran me and Thomas Massie out of the Congress and our Republican colleagues stayed silent,” she wrote. “But really it’s what Trump did to the American people. And tonight they sent him a clear message.”
“But it’s the rest of Republicans that need to learn the lesson and drastically change course,” Greene wrote. “And I’m not sure if they’re capable of that.”
Greene resigned from Congress in January after a public break with Trump, who had pulled his support and called her a traitor.
