Donald Trump lost his cool late Sunday after a former White House star criticized him live on Fox News.

Karl Rove, who was central in George W. Bush’s administration, called the president “Mr. Scrooge” during an interview on the network.

“We elected him for a variety of reasons that were important: inflation, the border, DEI, the military, respect for America,” Rove said.

“[But] things like tweeting out a picture of you as the pope is deeply offensive to a great many people.”

The criticism followed an AI-generated selfie Trump shared of himself wearing the papal robes after he joked that he’d make a great pope.

Rove also criticized other aspects of the president’s term in office so far, including the mistaken deportation of a man to El Salvador and his handling of the economy, specifically tariff. He focused on comments that American children may have to make do with two dolls rather than 30.

“It sounds like Mr. Scrooge,” Rove said on Sunday. “The ordinary American is like, ‘Wait a minute, I thought you were on my side. I didn’t think you were on the side of saying I need to do with less. You’ve got plenty of money, [but] I’ve got to make mine stretch as far as I can?’”

Trump wasn’t impressed.

“I don’t need to have Karl Rove of Fox News to tell me what to do,” he wrote on Truth Social.

“The guy’s a total Loser who’s been wrong about almost everything!”
