President Donald Trump on Tuesday vowed to strip federal funding from all schools that allow students to engage in what he dubbed "illegal protests."
Writing on his Truth Social page, Trump lobbed a new threat against America's academic institutions.
"All Federal Funding will STOP for any College, School, or University that allows illegal protests," Trump wrote. "Agitators will be imprisoned/or permanently sent back to the country from which they came. American students will be permanently expelled or, depending on on the crime, arrested. NO MASKS! Thank you for your attention to this matter."
It is unclear from his post what Trump considers to be an "illegal protest."
The First Amendment of the United States Constitution states that "Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
