'So much' of his baggage 'is make-believe': Trump voter

Why are so many Republican voters hellbent on nominating Donald Trump despite the fact that he's facing 91 felony charges in four different jurisdictions?

If a new report from the New York Times is to be believed, it's because they don't believe any negative claims about Trump to have any validity.

In fact, the Times points to polling trends showing that GOP voters have rallied to Trump in the wake of his indictments, which include allegations of fraud related to hush-money payments to an adult film star, illegally obstructing government efforts to retrieve top-secret government documents that were unlawfully stashed on his property, and a conspiracy to defraud the United States by illegally remaining in power after losing the 2020 election.

Yolanda Gutierrez, a California Trump supporter, told the Times why she's backing him despite facing unprecedented legal jeopardy for a presidential candidate.

“I know Trump’s got a lot of baggage,” she said. “But so much of it is make-believe.”

Lisa Keathly, a Texas Trump supporter, told the Times that she's supporting Trump more or less out of spite for people whom she dislikes.

“It’s a little bit like a teenager who’s rebelling — a part of me is like, Maybe I should go for Trump because everyone is telling me not to,” she explained.
