Many supporters of former President Donald Trump don't just like him for his policy ideas.

Rather, as a new report from the Boston Globe makes clear, they think he was literally chosen by God to lead the United States.

Among them is 63-year-old Iowa resident Joannie Firkins, who was not shy at all about discussing God's favor for the twice-impeached, thrice-married, four-time-indicted former president.

“I believe Trump is appointed by God — appointed-slash-anointed, however you want to say it,” she explained to the Globe. “He’s the only one that’s speaking the truth.”

Firkins also expressed enthusiasm about Trump potentially being a dictator.

“He can be a dictator for a day, hello!” she said. “He’s going to shut the border and he’s going to start drilling. We’re going to get our prosperity back.”

Other Trump supporters who talked with the Globe spoke in apocalyptic terms about what would happen to the United States if he did not win a second term in office next year.

"I pray he does get back in,” said 76-year-old Iowa resident Linda J. Honn. "Because if we don’t, we’re going under.”

60-year-old Maine resident Carolyn Noble, meanwhile, told the Globe that she felt Trump was the only person in politics whom she could trust.

"People who hide and want to keep secret and cover up the truth, those are the ones that we really need out of the office and I think that’s what Trump’s trying to show us," she explained.
