California governor Gavin Newsom's press office has mocked the Trump administration in a scathing post to social media.
A screenshot of the Drudge Report front page was posted to X by the Governor Newsom Press Office, which took aim at Trump's Thanksgiving policy blunders. Turkey prices were reported to have surged 24% and retail sales have dwindled as the cost-of-living crisis continues across the country.
Newsom's team mockingly called it "Trump's golden era" in their post. It reads, "Welcome to Trump's golden era!" A photo of the Drudge Report headline was also shared. It reads, "A tariff Thanksgiving. Turkey price up 24%. Grim retail sales. Consumer confidence spirals."
Analysis from The Times, which is the link Drudge Report had featured, found the cost of a traditional Thanksgiving meal would set back the average American family $107. This would be an increase of 9% total compared to 2024, and the increase also includes a 24% spike in the cost of a whole turkey.
Despite the reported price hike, the White House released a statement earlier this month claiming Thanksgiving was actually cheaper under the Trump administration than it was during Joe Biden's presidency.
Their statement reads, "President Donald J. Trump promised to crush inflation and lower prices — and he’s delivering this Thanksgiving, with the classic holiday feast about 3% cheaper than last year."
It comes after Trump used his Thanksgiving speech to rip into Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. He said, "The Mayor, who is a low IQ person... the mayor is incompetent and the governor is a big fat slob."
"So Governor Pritzker, if you're listening, let's get your act together. Invite us in. I had a little bit of a Pritzker joke, I was going to talk about Pritzker and size, but when I talk about Pritzker, I get angry because he's not letting us do the job.
"So I'm not going to tell my Pritzker joke. They have a very cute, little joke you know, some speech writer wrote some joke about his weight. But I would never want to talk about his weight. I don't talk about people being fat. I refuse to talk about the fact that he's a fat slob, I don't mention it."
