President Donald Trump held an Oval Office event with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer on speaker phone Thursday morning to discuss what Trump painted as a new trade deal, which he said he negotiated.
But the purported "deal" led two writers at The Bulwark to crack up laughing.
"The important headline here is like — basically nothing happened. I mean it's a deal about nothing essentially," said former Republican operative Tim Miller. "We still have a massive tariff that we didn't have before."
"So, as I read it, we went from 10% to 10%, is that right?" asked Sam Stein.

Miller explained that the first important fact is that it is tentative. He confirmed that the 10% will remain.
"It was a tough negotiation!" cracked Stein. "Painstaking, but they decided that 10% is the right number."
What is going down is the tax on luxury vehicles like Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce. Steel tariffs are decreasing from 25% to 10%.
"Yeah, I guess, but we put a 10% tariff on them and then kept it," Miller said as Stein continued to laugh.
Miller then mispronounced Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick with an unflattering alternative, leading Stein to completely lose it.
He showed a clip of Lutnick's comments from the Oval Office gushing about Trump's deal-making chops. The two men noticed that Vice President JD Vance appeared to laugh at Lutnick's display.
The headline for the piece admitted, "Trump's fake deal was so stupid we can't stop laughing."
