Peter Navarro, counselor to President Donald Trump, who has been handling some of the trade war, told Fox News on Thursday that the White House has many "deals" as part of its "90 Deals in 90 Days" plan, which has now passed 100 days. Those "deals," however, aren't consensual, Navarro confessed.
Speaking to Maria Bartiromo, Navarro promised, "We've got a bunch of deals right now." However, he confessed, they were one-sided.
"A lot of them are unilateral because we had to send letters to people ... trust in Trump," said Navarro.
It prompted mockery from those who noted that a "unilateral" deal isn't a deal at all.
"Ah, yes, the famous 'unilateral deal,'" mocked Mother Jones' editor-in-chief, Clara Jeffery.
“…trust in Trump," quoted former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL). "Don’t believe your eyes, ignore the facts, just trust in Trump. Yes, Virginia, it is a cult."
"'Unilateral deals,' huh," said Professor Mark D. White.
Senior economist Dean Baker at the Economics and Policy Institute questioned, "Coming month? We have two weeks until Liberation Day III."
"Dear Visa," wrote national security lawyer Bradley P. Moss. "Here is $10. I expect you will agree to accept this as payment for my entire credit card balance this month. Trust in Moss."
Legal analyst David Lurie quipped, "Trumpers specialize in deals without agreements."
Republican Lincoln Project advisor Jeff Timmer commented, "If these sophomoric idiot letters constitute trade deals, then if I send out a couple hundred unsolicited consulting proposals, I can list the recipients on my client roster and factor those proposed fees as income. That’s Navarro’s logic."
