President Donald Trump invited the governors of the U.S. to the White House on Friday for lunch — and he appeared not to be the biggest fan of one of his guests.

Trump bragged about his ongoing war against transgender youth in sports.

"Are you not going to comply with that?" Trump asked Maine Gov. Janet Mills, a Democrat.

"I'm complying with state and federal laws," she told Trump.

"Well, we are the federal law," Trump told her. "You better do it. You better do it because you're not going to get any federal funding at all if you don't," he responded.

"And by the way, your population, even though it's somewhat liberal, although I did very well there, your population doesn't want men playing in women's sports, so you better comply because otherwise you're not getting any federal funding."

"We'll see you in court," Mills clapped back.

"Good, I'll see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after governor because I don't think you'll be in elected politics," Trump concluded.

After the luncheon, Fox reported Mills' office released a statement saying that her state "will not be intimidated by the President's threats."

"If the President attempts to unilaterally deprive Maine school children of the benefit of Federal funding, my Administration and the Attorney General will take all appropriate and necessary legal action to restore that funding and the academic opportunity it provides," she added.

There are only a few transgender student-athletes in the United States, but Trump has targeted them as part of his ongoing opposition to LGBTQ+ rights. Trump's executive order banning transgender athletes calls it part of an "ideology."
