Donald Trump won North Carolina in the 2024 election in part due to his promises to help those affected by a local disaster, but "frustration remains" among locals, according to a report.
Trump, along with Vice President J.D. Vance and political appointee and richest man in the world Elon Musk, has criticized former President Joe Biden's response to the devastating Hurricane Helene.
Many voters thought Trump would do better, but the results are sparse, according to the Washington Post's reporting.

In an article from Sunday entitled "Trump vowed to help the N.C. mountains rebuild after Helene. Frustration remains," the Post highlighted bridges in the state that are "littered with crushed cars, houses knocked off their foundations and thousands of downed trees," and accompanied by signs that read, “Trump Make this Bridge Great Again!”
"Five months after Hurricane Helene, about 300 privately owned bridges in this county have yet to be fixed. While Americans typically rely on a mix of state and federal aid in the wake of a disaster, the recovery for many here has become akin to a personal test of their relationship with President Donald Trump," according to the new report.
The story quotes numerous locals who have been affected by the disaster, including Gary Hicks, who was critical of Biden's response and voted for Trump.
"Hicks and four other families have been trying to figure out how to come up with the estimated $200,000 it will cost to replace their bridge. Even a small rain shower can make the river rise, stranding their cars," the report states. "With Biden, Hicks said, 'there was no hope' of getting things done. He voted for Trump, but he’s still waiting."
Hicks reportedly said, "I have found myself questioning this new administration. What are they going to do?... I know he’s only been in office for a month. But let’s start seeing some results.”
