Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson on Friday suggested that former President Donald Trump is seething with jealousy now that Vice President Kamala Harris is drawing away media attention from him.

During a discussion on MSNBC about President Joe Biden's decision this week to pass the baton to his vice president by dropping out of the 2024 presidential race, Robinson said that it had generated a surge in enthusiasm within the party that would make the 2024 Democratic National Convention the "party of the year" in a few weeks.

"They'll do a whole lot better than Hulk Hogan and Kid Rock," Robinson said of the guest lineup at this year's DNC. "I can imagine the stars who will come out, I can imagine the production values."

He then argued that Harris' entry at the top of the ticket had injected the party with a new energy that had been completely drained from the party ever since President Joe Biden's stumbling debate performance in June sent his presidential campaign into a tailspin.

All of this, he said, would infuriate former President Donald Trump, who lashed out at Harris and even called her "real garbage" during a Fox News interview on Thursday.

"Their candidate, Donald Trump, is clearly in a sour mood and doesn't know exactly where to go and what to say," he said. "And most important of all, the convention, once again, will keep Trump out of the headlines. He's been doing whatever he could to get the spotlight, but it's not on him! It's off of him! It's on Kamala Harris and the Democrats! And that has to be driving Donald Trump crazy."
