Donald Trump's White House announced a decision that is in violation of the law, according to a former George W. Bush adviser.

Fox News posted an "exclusive" report on Thursday, suggesting that the White House had announced "it will bring back the Department of War name for the Department of Defense." Although Trump himself has mused about this move, it is the first of the official signs such a change might actually happen.

But former speechwriter to President George W. Bush, David Frum, noted that such a move is completely unlawful.

"The Department of Defense was created and named by Act of Congress," Frum said. "Trump is claiming the right to tax by executive fiat, suspend due process rights by executive fiat, and now to ignore crucial national-security statutes by executive fiat."

Frum went on to say, "Here is the law Trump is breaking by his move to rename the Department of Defense by executive order," while linking to "National Security Act Amendments of 1949, 10 August 1949."
