Former Trump Administration official and right-wing activist Kash Patel was grilled in Colorado during the trial over whether Trump is ineligible for the state ballot under the 14th Amendment — and in particular was cornered about his writings about the supposed "Deep State" conspiracy against the former president.
"You wrote another book called Government Gangsters, is that right?" said the attorney. "And Government Gangsters is about your view that there's a cabal or Deep State out there that is trying to ruin our country."
"Not my view in the book, it's outlined further action," said Patel, who was there as a witness for Trump.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
"And you wrote the book about the Deep State, right?" asked the attorney, to which he confirmed yes. "Is this proceeding part of the Deep State?"
"No, it's a law enforcement proceeding," said Patel.
"Am I part of the Deep State?" asked the attorney.
"I don't know, I don't really know you," he said.
"Is the judge part of the Deep State?" said the attorney.
"I take the judge to be beyond reproach," said Patel.
"Frankly, sir, you think that all liberals or liberal leadership are evil, right?" asked the attorney.
"That's, that's outrageous," said Patel. "I worked more in the Department of Justice for Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates than I ever did in the Republican administration ... I worked as a public defender for eight years executing due process. So if you wanna make that globalization, because the cameras are on, you can go right ahead."
During the course of the trial, Patel also admitted that Trump's PAC is paying him $15,000 a month.
The trial centers on whether the Insurrection Clause of the 14th Amendment prohibits Trump from appearing on the state ballot due to his having allegedly engaged in "insurrection" against the United States.
