Univision's star news anchor León Krauze has parted with the Spanish language juggernaut following a sit-down interview with former president Donald Trump last week that aroused suspicions that the network is softening toward the GOP, according to Deadline.
"After thirteen rewarding years, my journey with @Univsion Noticias concluded yesterday," the newsman tweeted. "My unwavering commitment, past, present, and future, is to journalism that amplifies the voices and illuminates the stories of those who so often go unheard and unseen."
"That will remain my guiding principle."
Krauze cut his teeth anchoring Univision’s KMEX weeknight news program, and was upped to the company’s national night news program “Noticiero Univision Edición Nocturna” in January of 2022, according to Deadline.
The one-on-one interview with Trump spurned concerns that it was too softball with him.
And the Washington Post, citing sources, reported that Trump son-in-law and former White House advisor Jared Kushner worked in the background to secure the interview and was also present in the room.
The 45th president who is leading in the polls to become the Republican nominee for the upcoming 2024 presidential election appeared to enjoy Univision's open hand.
“All you have to do is look at the owners of Univision," he answered to a question about Latino voters. "They’re unbelievable entrepreneurial people, and they like me.”
