NC woman upset to find Nazi swastika burned into bun of her McDonald's chicken sandwich
A woman in Morehead City, North Carolina was shocked to discover a swastika burned onto the bun of a chicken sandwich she ordered from McDonald's, WCTI 12 reports.
Charleigh Matice told WCTI 12 that when she opened her chicken sandwich to apply mayonnaise, she found the Nazi symbol drawn in butter on the underside of the bun:
"Is this a joke?" she asked. "Does somebody really think this is funny? Many people died because of that symbol and it’s not something that should be taken lightly. It’s not something that should be thrown around."
Matice immediately brought the bun to the attention of the McDonald's manager, who offered to replace it.
"I really didn't have an appetite at that point, so I said, 'I'd rather have my money back.'" However, she still felt that the situation needed to be addressed, so she went with the story to WCTI 12, which then spent "a few days" verifying that it actually occurred.
In June, a family in Mississippi accused an employee at a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise of berating their disfigured daughter. It was later revealed that the encounter never happened, and the family apologized for the hoax.
But in this case, it appears that Matice was, in fact, served a chicken sandwich with a swastika burned into it. McDonald's sent WCTI 12 an email in which Dulcy Purcell, the owner of that franchise, apologized for the incident and said "to be clear we have terminated the employee who was involved. We do not tolerate that kind of behavior at McDonald's, and it's not what we stand for personally as owners."
