The View's Whoopi Goldberg calls Joe Manchin's attack on Kamala Harris 'bigoted'

The Black co-hosts of "The View" couldn't help but notice that the feud between Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Vice President Kamala Harris wasn't a good look for the white leader.

Harris gave an interview with a West Virginia station where she advocated for President Joe Biden's proposed COVID stimulus package directly to the members of Manchin's state. He was furious, saying "I couldn't believe it. No one called me. We're gonna try to find a bipartisan pathway forward. I think we need to. But we need to work together. That's not a way of working together, what was done."

Goldberg explained to Manchin that Harris is the vice president of the United States and doesn't work for him.

"She doesn't need your permission to go do this, and when you talk like that, it sounds a little bigoted like you think you have the right to tell her when she can and cannot come someplace," Goldberg continued, asking why Harris would ever need to come to Manchin first for anything.

In fact, Manchin's own state is fighting back against his resistance to the $2,000 stimulus payments. His state is one of the poorest in the country and it has been hit hard with joblessness during the past Donald Trump administration. His voters are begging for help.

"You just said it, Whoopi," co-host Sunny Hostin agreed. "She doesn't need his permission. As vice president of the United States, she's actually, you know, sort of president of the Senate, right? She breaks ties in the Senate, and I'm sure she went and was interviewed at the behest of the president of the United States. I'm quite sure that she did not do that without the request of the president of the United States, and I'm pretty sure that Sen. Manchin knows that, and so I was actually really, almost offended that he sort of said that kind of thing. I found it to be pretty disrespectful. I was surprised."

Surprisingly, progressive Joy Behar disagreed saying that since Manchin is the "swing vote" in the Democratic Party that the White House should be sucking up to him. It's exactly the sentiment that Manchin hoped for after Democrats won the Senate seat in Georgia. As a swing vote, Manchin would be able to hold any legislation hostage that Democrats hope to pass until he gets what he wants. Meghan McCain agreed with Behar that it's time for Democrats to negotiate with him instead of attacking him.
