Conservative writer Vince Everett Ellison compared the Democratic Party to the Gestapo in an interview on Monday.
On a Juneteenth podcast, host Charlie Kirk asked Ellison what Americans should think about the holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
"You know I was born on a cotton plantation in Haywood County, Tennessee," Ellison began. "My father was a sharecropper, so I know the Democratic Party and the Southern Democratic Party very, very well."
"And Juneteenth is a celebration now that the Democrat [sic] Party's trying to hijack," he continued. "The Democrat Party celebrating Juneteenth is like the Gestapo celebrating Hanukkah. The Democrat Party was a party to own the slaves. They were the party that fought to destroy America and to keep their slaves."
Ignoring the last 50 years, Ellison recalled that Democrats had been "slave masters" and supporters of segregation.
"That is the truth, and just like everything else, the Democratic Party [is] trying to hijack and lie and deflect their sins on the rest of America," he remarked.
