CHICAGO — The Democratic National Convention will descend on the United Center next August like a made-for-TV political Cirque du Soleil spectacle, putting a spotlight on Chicago. For residents of the proud West Side, the impending gala offers an opportunity, but it’s also something of a double-edged sword.
