Donald Trump's White House is being hit with an avalanche of criticism after what some professional analysts called a "completely tone deaf" attempt to explain damage to the building during construction of a Trump ballroom.
The White House account on X posted a picture of Trump late Wednesday, saying, "THE FINEST BALLROOM EVER BUILT!"
The post also quoted Trump as claiming, "We're doing it NO COST to the country... in order to do it properly, we had to take down the existing structure."
That didn't sit well with many onlookers, including Politico alum Carla Marinucci.
"But you said you weren't going to touch the existing building. You lied," she said.
One popular account, which seeks to educate "about narcissistic and antisocial personality disorders," wrote, "Lol 'no cost' from King quid pro quo."
"Criminals," they added.
Conservative anti-Trump strategist Jeff Timmer called the post "completely tone deaf."
"Trump and his flying monkeys spend 24/7 battling their own staggering corruption with extinction-level stupidity, while simultaneously waging war against their blistering idiocy with a blitzkrieg of lawlessness," he added on Thursday.
The founder of Sons of Liberty International, Matthew VanDyke, also chimed in:
"You destroyed a large part of the historic White House that belonged to the people to build a gaudy monstrosity for parties that only the rich and powerful will ever enjoy."
"Nobody voted for this," he then added.
