Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) compared Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump to the gadfly filmmaker Michael Moore.
Graham, who mounted his own unsuccessful GOP presidential campaign, slammed Trump during an appearance Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America" for attacking former President George W. Bush on the Iraq War, reported The Hill.
“What he said about President George W. Bush being a liar and that the Bush administration is the cause of 9/11 is Michael Moore stuff,” Graham said.
Trump drew boos during Saturday's Republican presidential debate by claiming that Bush "lied" to Americans by suggesting there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, even though “they knew there were none."
The real estate tycoon and reality TV star also claimed Bush, whose brother Jeb is also running for president, allowed terrorists to attack the World Trade Center and Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.
Graham said even mainstream Democrats had not leveled such "kooky" charges -- and he said the allegations were further evidence to suggest Trump would not win the GOP nomination and could not win a general election.
"If you want to get a replacement for Justice (Antonin) Scalia, a conservative that's going to nominate a conservative, which Trump is not, but also nominate somebody that can win," Graham said. "Donald Trump cannot win 270 electoral votes. What he said about George W. Bush being a liar and the Bush administration was the cause of 9/11 -- this Michael Moore stuff -- I hope that will bite him a little bit here, and I think it will."
