The exodus of college-educated women leaving the Republican Party has accelerated under President Donald Trump with a recent poll showing that desirable demographic now favors Democrats by over 32 percent.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Democrats now hold a 20-point edge among all women when it comes to control of Congress, up from 12 points during the 2014 midterms.

Those numbers are part of a larger problem that the GOP is having with women, with the Journal noting that college-educated women are leaving at an increased pace that now sees them favoring Democrats by a whopping 62 to 30 percent.

Comments by one woman with a masters degree living in North Carolina -- and who identified herself as a conservative -- should worry Republican party leaders after she pointed at Trump and the recent embrace by the GOP of alleged child molester Roy Moore for one of Alabama's U.S. Senate seats.

“I don’t know where the party is going to from here, but they are going to have to do a lot to get me back,” explained Stephanie Martin, a 44-year-old mom and former corporate executive.

Mary Strausbaugh, a retiree with a bachelor’s degree who lives in Harrisburg, Pa., agreed, saying she plans to vote for Democrats in 2018 after a lifetime as a Republican.

According to Strausbaugh, the GOP attacks on immigrants have convinced her to switch parties.

The Pennsylvania woman added that her daughter, a recent college graduate who lives with her due to student loan debt, became politically active this past year during the Trump administration citing the Women's March on Washington D.C.

“She’s writing congresspeople. It began with the Women’s March in January, and now it’s the ‘me too’ movement,” Strausbaugh explained. “She’ll be active all next year.”
