Democrats are projected to take the lead in gubernatorial races, according to a new report released by the data journalism website FiveThirtyEight.
The “FiveThirtyEight’s Governors Forecast” report shows that Democrats will control states that make up 60 percent of the U.S. population.
The report also details that Democrats will control an average of 23.6 states compared to Republicans in 26.4 states. Some of the races are predicted to be very close. These states include Georgia, Nevada, Ohio, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Florida.
After several years in office, Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) has been a popular Democratic target. This year, however, might be the last for the Koch-funded governor.
After the colossal failed "tea party experiment" in Kansas, voters there are looking for someone to fix the slumping economy and struggling education system. Kris Kobach, a close ally to President Donald Trump, has run for races all over the state, but this is his first time leading the GOP ticket for governor. Moderate Democrat Laura Kelly is seen as a kind of Kathleen Sebelius-style candidate the voters might view as more stable.
In the past, moderate Democrats who face off against far-right Republicans have failed in Kansas state-wide elections.
