Riders on a Greyhound bus bound for New York City were terrorized by an infestation of roaches that started to drop from the ceiling and crawl all over the seats and floor just minutes after the bus left Atlantic City, reported NBC 6 South Florida on Friday.

The bus, which was carrying 48 people and an unknown number of roaches, had to pull over and evacuate en route. A second bus was sent to pick up the passengers, who arrived later at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Parents tried to calm their screeching children as the roaches poured out of cracks and crevices throughout the bus, passengers told NBC 4 New York.

"All of a sudden the roaches came out of nowhere, they were on the floor, they were falling form the ceiling," said Andy Rodriguez, one of the passenger.

Greyhound issued an apology and has refunded the trip for all the passengers.

"Once the driver became aware of the situation, the driver followed procedures by pulling the bus over to a safe location and notifying our dispatch office," Greyhound spokesman Timothy Stokes said.
