Trump spokesperson: Why bother having nuclear weapons if you’re afraid to use them?

Published

on

A spokesperson for  Donald Trump’s front running GOP presidential campaign lashed out at his fellow Republican candidates for saber-rattling about war — inferring that they are all talk and no action — before wondering whether it does the U.S. any good to have nuclear weapons if our leaders are afraid to use them.

Appearing on The O’Reilly Factor, Trump spokesperson Katrina Pearson hammered at the other candidates while covering for her boss who, in a recent debate, was stumped when asked the country’s nuclear strike capability known as the “nuclear triad.”

“What good does it do to have a good nuclear triad if you’re afraid to use it?” Pierson asked. “And that’s where we are today and we need to fix these problems. Not just complaining and name-calling about who started this and who started that.”

Pierson’s comments stunned conservative columnist and Desert Storm veteran Kurt Schlichter, who got into a contentious argument with Pierson over her boss’s ignorance on nuclear matters.

“The point of the nuclear triad is to be afraid to use the damn thing. You want to scare the hell out of the other side,” Schlichter excitedly yelled. “And frankly, my side will be more scared if Donald Trump gets his finger on the button.”

In a previous television appearance, Pierson defended Trump’s much-criticized proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country, telling a horrified S.E. Cupp of CNN: “So what? They’re Muslim.”

‘That’s not true’: CNN host disputes ex-Trump adviser who says ‘typical’ family won’t work because of $600 checks

Former White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett claimed on Tuesday that a "typical median family" is being paid $90,000 to stay home during the pandemic if they are receiving the $600 weekly federal unemployment benefits.

In an interview on CNN, host Poppy Harlow challenged the former Trump adviser when he downplayed the urgency of extending the unemployment benefits.

"You and I don't rely on $600 a week to pay our rent or feed our family," Harlow explained. "That's not our situation. But for millions of Americans, it is. And they stopped getting those checks on Friday and that's why I don't think it's too far to say that it's a failure [of government]."

Trump’s Axios interview put his ‘willful ignorance’ on full display for the country: Ex-RNC official

In a column for the conservative Bulwark, the former spokesperson for the Republican National Committee said the interview Donald Trump participated in with Jonathan Swan of Axios should be put to rest any doubts anyone might have had that the president is out of his depth.

Reacting to the interview done in conjunction with HBO, Tim Miller -- who is now an advisor to the Never Trumper Lincoln Project -- claimed the president's comments about the CoVID-19 pandemic and resulting U.S. death toll that has raced passed 150,000 is a sign "Trump is fundamentally incapable of recognizing the true nature of what he calls the 'invisible enemy.'"

On CNN Monday, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) laid into Louis DeJoy, the controversial GOP megadonor just appointed to serve as President Donald Trump's postmaster general amid fears he will try to sabotage the Postal Service for personal gain or to block mail-in votes.

"There is talk, Senator, of the Post Office being told to cut back on deliveries or change the way they operate," said anchor John Berman. "This in the middle of the pandemic. This with an election 90 some days away. What does that say to you?"
