Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy (D) tore into GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump on Twitter, telling the candidate he will have “blood on his hands” after suggesting on Friday that her security detail, should be disarmed to “see what happens.”
On Twitter, Murphy wrote, “Hey @realDonaldTrump, if you keep suggesting your supporters kill @HillaryClinton, someone will listen. The blood will be on your hands.”
In a blatant appeal for NRA voters, Trump previously suggested that there might be a Second Amendment way of stopping a President Clinton, saying, “If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is.”
Murphy has become a leading proponent for expanded gun laws following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in his home state that took the lives of 20 children aged between 6 and 7 years old, as well as six adult school staff members.
Friday night saw former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D) — a victim of America’s gun violence epidemic– called on the GOP nominee to apologize for his comments, calling Trump “dangerously unfit” for office.
According to The Hill, Giffords and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, issued statement saying: “Tonight we have even more evidence of just how dangerously unfit Donald Trump is to be president of this great country. He is reckless, irresponsible and unworthy of the office he seeks.”
“In his more stable moments, Mr. Trump has said he regrets some of the ugly insults and dangerous threats he has leveled during the course of this campaign. We call on him to immediately renounce these comments, apologize to Hillary Clinton, and acknowledge that once again he has gone dangerously too far.”
