Matt Lauer accused of sexually assaulting NBC staffer at Olympics: report
Matt Lauer (Today)

Matt Lauer was reportedly fired as "Today" host after an NBC staffer complained he sexually assaulted her during the Rio Olympics.

The woman reported her complaint Tuesday to NBC News, whose executives promptly fired Lauer, and sources revealed details about the allegations to the New York Post's Page Six.

“An NBC staffer came forward with a claim that Matt sexually assaulted her at the Olympics," one source said. "There have been rumors about Matt having affairs with subordinates at NBC for years, but those were believed to be consensual. This incident in Rio was not.”

Another source told Page Six that NBC News chairman Andy Lack decided to fire Lauer late Tuesday, and it was announced on air by "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie.

Lauer's firing came as rumors swirled that other media outlets were preparing to report on his alleged sexual misconduct.

The former anchor's wife filed for divorce in 2006, citing "cruel and inhumane" behavior, but the filing was withdrawn a month later after the couple reached a private agreement.

President Donald Trump has also responded to the firing in his own way.
