Donald Trump became enraged after seeing footage of James Comey using a government-funded airplane the day after he fired the former FBI director, calling Andrew McCabe to complain about the trip—and call the former acting director’s wife “a loser.”
As NBC News reports, Trump was “furious” watching footage of Comey on an FBI plane the day after the president fired him and called McCabe demanding to know why the former FBI director was allowed to take a government plane. McCabe told Trump he would have approved Comey’s flight, but said he was not asked beforehand.
“The president was silent for a moment and then turned on McCabe, suggesting he ask his wife how it feels to be a loser,” NBC News reports. Jill McCabe had recently lost her bid for a state Senate seat. According to the report, McCabe replied, "okay, sir," prompting Trump to hang up the phone.
The report comes after McCabe on Monday "was forced to step down" as FBI deputy director. Last week, the Washington Post reported Trump has asked McCabe, then acting FBI director, who he voted for in 2016.
