MSNBC's Donny Deutsch said Rudy Giuliani is playing a dangerous game with his over-the-top defense of President Donald Trump against the special counsel probe of Russian election interference.
The former New York City mayor has made angry denials and startling admissions during his scenery-chewing TV appearances as the president's attorney, and the "Morning Joe" contributor said Giuliani was stoking a dangerous fire by undermining the rule of law.
"I'll tell you what's scary about Giuliani, he's planting the seeds for a civil war," Deutsch said.
He imagined what might happen if special counsel Robert Mueller found enough evidence of criminal wrongdoing by the president to trigger the impeachment process, and he warned it might end darkly.
"Unless what Mueller comes up with is Trump on the phone with Putin saying, 'Let's turn this into Russia/USA,' that 35 percent is going to take to the streets," Deutsch continued. "We keep going through this in a very academic way. Play this out and let's say that really Trump -- we find his hand in the cookie jar. Unless it's so egregious, we're going to have a country that is really, really at civil war for the first time."
