Saturday Night Live took on the Sen. Ted Cruz (R) vs. Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D) battle down in Texas, with cast member Beck Bennett portraying Cruz as a desperate candidate trying to "outcool" the younger and more popular O'Rourke with a hip-hop campaign rally that fails miserably.

“When God whispered to me that I should run for Senate, he didn’t tell me it was going to be a popularity contest,” the bumbling Bennett as Cruz said, “but we are going to throw the coolest rally in town.”

With his hypemen (host Awkwafina and SNL cast member Kenan Thompson) attempting to fire things up with t-shirt and hot dog cannons and exhortations to the older Texas crowd falling flat, Cruz's audio equipment fails, he attempts to dribble a basketball and ends up with a bloody nose for his efforts as the crowd grimaces.
