Russian officials and state media gloated over news that special counsel Robert Mueller did not establish that the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government during the 2016 election.

Sen. Alexei Pushkov, a senior deputy in Russia’s Federation Council, described the Mueller report as “a mountain that birthed a dead mouse," and Russian state news agency TASS cited Fox News to claim the findings represent a complete victory for President Donald Trump, reported Russian media watchdog Julia Davis for The Daily Beast.

“It’s not every day you get to see [Rachel Maddow] nearly cry live on-air,” said Russian state media outlet RIA Novosti.

Evgeny Popov, host of the popular 60 Minutes program, reported Mueller had confirmed that “Russia didn’t elect Trump,” but “will most definitely elect him in 2020.”

Russia’s Federal News Agency, an offshoot of the notorious Russian troll factory known as the Internet Research Agency, described Mueller’s probe as an investigation “against Russia and Trump,” and insisted the special counsel never found any evidence of their involvement in the 2016 election.

“The Russians are coming — or the Russians were never there?” said the agency’s surrogate, falsely claiming Mueller was unable to find either the troll factory or evidence against Russian hackers.

Russian state news outlet RIA Novosti predicted Russian election interference will soon be replaced by “Ukrainegate,” based on a conspiracy theory that Ukraine interfered in the U.S. elections to aid Hillary Clinton, which Trump himself has promoted on Twitter and Sean Hannity has pushed on Fox News.
