'To the wolves': Columnist says GOP about to turn on Mitch McConnell

Most of the Republicans who serve alongside Mitch McConnell have staunchly defended the ailing senator, but that support will soon shift as they start to think about their political futures, according to a political commentator.

Longtime political observer Michael Tomasky wrote for The New Republic on Friday that their predicted behavior has "as much to do with Biden as it does Trump." For now, he said, Republicans are sticking by their leader in the senate.

'Election law Barney Fifes': NC news editor mocks Republicans' 'election integrity' bills

On Thursday, August 24th, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) announced that he would veto two pieces of legislation crafted by State Senate Republicans that, respectively, "make it harder for people, especially young people, college students away from home and people of color to vote and for their votes to count" and "would give legislative Republicans more power to influence how elections are run."

Senate Bill 747 "has nothing to do with election security and everything to do with Republicans keeping and gaining power,” said Cooper. "It requires valid votes to be tossed out unnecessarily, schemes to restrict early voting and absentee ballots, encourages voter intimidation and attempts to give Republican legislators the authority to decide contested election results."

DeSantis’ school voucher program gives parents taxpayer dollars for PlayStations and paddleboards

Under Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida taxpayers last year handed parents $43,374 to pay for in-home treadmills, $30,436 to pay for indoor trampolines, and $226,584 to pay for game consoles. Supporters of the state’s publicly-funded expanded school voucher program call it a “21st century approach” to learning, while opponents say the money could be better spent in public school classrooms.

“Theme park passes, 55-inch TVs, and stand-up paddleboards are among the approved items that recipients can buy to use at home,” the Tampa Bay Times reports, thanks to legislation Governor DeSantis signed into law in March. “The purchases can be made by parents who home-school their children or send them to private schools, if any voucher money remains after paying tuition and fees.”
