'I almost hope Cannon grants Donald Trump's motion to dismiss': former federal prosecutor

If Judge Aileen Cannon were to dismiss the case it would please former federal prosecutor and Trump critic Glenn Kirschner.

Kirschner discussed his hope that Cannon spikes the case to allow for an "impartial judge" to take over on the most recent episode of his "Justice Matters" podcast.

"You don't often hear this from a former career prosecutor, but I almost hope Aileen Cannon grants Donald Trump's motion to dismiss the case," Kirschner said. "Throw out all the charges."

He went on: "Now, that may seem counterintuitive. No no no... Here's the thing: Judge Aileen Cannon should not be presiding over this case."

He argued that Cannon should recuse herself because her bias has become so evident that her "impartiality might be reasonably questioned."

In her stead, he believes that an "impartial judge, one who does not owe their very job ... to the defendant" could reboot the case and prevent it from falling into any time-sucking pitfalls.

Cannon, whom Kirschner referred to as Trump's "favorite judge and benefactor" has been accused of making many decisions that favor the 45th president, although Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has succeeded in getting some of them reversed by the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

On Thursday, however, Cannon denied one of Trump's dismissal motions, although there is another motion to dismiss that she will also consider in the near future.

Trump was hit with a bevy of felony charges including willful retention of national defense information, false statements and representations, conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record and corruptly concealing a document.

He along with his co-defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, pleaded not guilty.
