A self-proclaimed white nationalist who ran down and killed a Muslim family says he was radicalized by watching outlets including Alex Jones' Infowars, Vice News reported.

Nathaniel Veltman, 22, is facing four murder charges, one charge of attempted murder, and terrorism charges. He has pleaded not guilty but does not deny he ran down the family after he wrote an anti-Muslim manifesto. He also said he hoped to inspire more anti-Muslim attacks.

In June of 2021, Veltman ran down five family members who were waiting to cross a street in Ontario, killing four of them. The only survivor was the family’s nine-year-old son.

During his testimony Tuesday, Veltman explained what he said led to his radicalization.

“I consumed libertarian content, mainstream conservative content,” he said. “Then I slowly started looking at some alt-right content on YouTube, and then stumbled across some of the more fringe.”

According to Vice's report, he described content related to the Great Replacement, "a popular conspiracy theory among the far-right focused on minorities taking over white majority countries — and the idea that Muslim violence is under-covered by mainstream media. He said that he consumed conspiratorial content like Alex Jones’ Infowars where he found 'conspiracies that Middle Eastern wars were a conspiracy to try to bring Muslim immigration into Europe.' This then led him to white nationalist content."
