Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) was humiliated on MS NOW on Tuesday morning with an archived clip demonstrating that he was easily deceived by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. a year and a half ago.
The day after President Donald Trump and Kennedy, now the HHS secretary, made a major announcement on childhood vaccinations with patently false claims about autism, the hosts of “Morning Joe” made a point of driving home how the Louisiana Republican had the wool pulled over his eyes as he backed the unqualified Trump appointee.
In the Feb 4, 2025 clip from the Senate floor, Cassidy confidently promised, “Mr. Kennedy has asked for my input into hiring decisions at HHS, beyond Senate-confirmed positions. This aspect of our collaboration will allow us to represent all sides of those folks that were contacting me this weekend.”
“He has also committed that he would work within the current vaccine approval and safety monitoring systems, and not establish parallel systems,” he added. “If confirmed, he will maintain the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices without changes. CDC will not remove statements on their website pointing out that vaccines do not cause autism.”
That all went out the window during a Monday afternoon press availability in the Oval Office.
“Right out of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, where Luke says, ‘amazing, everything you just said is wrong,’ and really literally everything he said there was absolutely wrong and proven wrong yesterday,” co-host Joe Scarborough pronounced after watching the clip.
Co-host Willie Geist chimed in with, “And that's doctor Bill Cassidy, the senator of Louisiana, who of course, knew much better when he cast that vote to support the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to do the things that he's doing now.”
“This is the same Senator Cassidy who was choked up on TV a few days ago talking about the historic vote he took to approve Todd Blanche despite the fact he's leaving town, doesn't have to run for re-election, doesn't need Donald Trump anymore, and knows that having someone's personal attorney become the attorney general of the United States is patently wrong,” Geist added before bluntly adding, “But he views himself as a historic figure. He was wrong there and wrong back in 2025 when he voted for Bobby Kennedy.”
