Central Park Karen’s op-ed defending her actions in a viral New York City video is for the birds, social media has decreed.
Amy Cooper was raked over the proverbial coals Tuesday after Newsweek published an editorial in which she doubled down on claims made three years ago, namely that she’d been threatened in New York City’s most famous park by a birdwatcher, who is Black.
Cooper blamed the public shaming she experienced on Christian Cooper, the birdwatcher whose video of the encounter went viral and, as she wrote, ended her life as she knew it.
“I was scared,” said Cooper of her encounter with the birdwatcher who became upset that she had a dog off the leash. “A man yelling at me and threatening me.”
Cooper called 911 and said an “African-American” man threatened her and falsely accused him of assault, the Daily Beast notes.
Christian Cooper, no relation to Amy, cannot be seen making any such attack on the video and has since said the backlash against her made him uncomfortable

But in her opinion piece, Amy Cooper complained the birdwatcher she called the cops on hadn’t been open to an “honest, productive conversation” with her.
Twitter was quick to call Amy Cooper’s op-ed a flight of fancy.
“She could have caused innocent Black man to be lethally cancelled by NYPD,” tweeted Helen Peterson. “Clueless.”
“Nobody needed to keep their PR person more than Amy Cooper,” wrote @lawl_assoc. “My god.”
“Girl please,” added Randette Brown. “We've moved on to new racists, dearie.”
"Cry me a river Karen," wrote Tommy Mac.
Newsweek also took some flack for giving Cooper a platform.
"Why in the world would you solicit and publish an OpEd by “Central Park Karen”?" asked Nicki Morgan. "Shame on you!"
Asked Ben Goggin, "I could write several hundred pages about the Central Park Karen op-ed in Newsweek. But my most pressing question is who approved this as her author-bio for the piece"?
The bio in question reads:
Amy Cooper, a loving daughter, friend, dog mom, and volunteer for women of abuse, currently resides in an undisclosed location after being at the center of a media firestorm after being dubbed the "Central Park Karen."
