'They're booing the truth': Chris Christie says Trump supporters are 'in denial'

The crowd let Chris Christie have it and he couldn't care less.

Former Gov. Chris Christie belted zinger after zinger on stage — and off — chiseling away at the big elephant and GOP frontrunner who wasn't in the room during the fourth GOP debate from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday night.

He laid into the 45th president again and again while the other candidates on the stage, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, mostly took the Donald detour or as Christie claimed playing "both sides of the middle."

When asked to make a final statement by the moderators who included NewsNation's Elizabeth Vargas, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, and the Washington Free Beacon's Eliana Johnson, Christie swung for the fences: "I want you all to kind of picture in your minds election day. You'll all be heading to the polls to vote. And that is something Donald Trump will not be able to do. Because he will be convicted of felonies before then and his right to vote will be taken away."

A chorus of boos from the crowd ensued.

An unfazed Christie kept paddling upstream.

He continued: "You know, look, here is the bottom line, you can boo about it all you like and continue to deny reality. But if we deny reality as a party, we'll have four more years with Joe Biden."

For Christie, letting Trump back into the White House and running the country is going to come with severe consequences.

"My colleagues here raised their hands and said they would support him even if he was a convicted felon," he said of Trump who is defending himself against 91 felony counts in four separate cases across the country ranging from mishandling classified information, obstructing justice, conspiring to overturn the 2020 election, and juking business records in connection to hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels.

"The bigger problem with it is they were confirming the lies he's told to the American people. If you are too timid to take on Trump, believe me, others will see that."

"Xi, Putin, and the border crossers on the southern border, and the criminals in our streets. They'll sense that and they will take advantage of that failure of leadership."

Christie also deems Trump unfit.

“This is an angry bitter man who now wants to be back as president because he wants to exact retribution on anyone who has disagreed with him,” Christie thundered. “His conduct is unacceptable. He's unfit. Be careful of what you'll get if you ever get a second Donald Trump term.”

After the debate, in a conversation with CNN's Dana Bash, Christie still had more in the tank.

On his opponents he called it "the same stuff over and over again... Ron DeSantis' memorized answers, Nikki Haley trying to have it both ways and Vivek who is the drunk driver of the debate stage; you never know where's going or what he's going to hit."

He also had more for the former president.

He then made it clear the boos almost supported his stance against Trump.

"It might make them boo ya, which I got tonight and I don't care," he told her.

Asked about how he kept getting booed every time he mentioned Trump by name, Christie said, "They're booing the truth. They're booing the truth because they're in denial."
