Conflicting reports surfaced Wednesday after two National Guard troops were reported dead after a potential targeted attack a block from the White House in Washington, D.C.
West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey had said two troops from his state died in the shooting near Farragut Square on Wednesday afternoon, close to the metro station. He later posted on X that he had received conflicting reports about their conditions.
He posted the following:
"We are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we receive more complete information. Our prayers are with these brave service members, their families, and the entire Guard community."
An unidentified suspect, who was seriously injured, remained in custody after exchanging gunfire with the troops.
D.C. Police, the Secret Service and FBI were investigating.
