A Republican lawmaker’s passionate plea that Democrats "stop the threats against Republican members of Congress” was met with a fiery response from two Democratic congressmen who insisted she urge her GOP colleagues to do the same.
But Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-MN) didn’t seem interested in the advice.
The heated exchange unfolded Monday during a House Committee on Rules hearing when Fischbach unloaded on her Democratic colleagues, including Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who had been delivering testimony.
“If you are concerned about threats – there are threats to Republican members of Congress from your side,” she said. “There’s ‘wanted posters’ – I will get you copies of them – because there’s ‘wanted posters’ of Republicans in their districts.”
She added that a Republican member of Congress was confronted with “a guillotine set up in front of his office,” and asked that Democrats “publicly denounce” threats against Republican members of Congress, without mentioning any threats to Democratic lawmakers.
“I haven’t seen a guillotine since January 6,” Raskin replied – a comment which appeared to rile Fischbach up. After Raskin agreed to “denounce and renounce any threats against any member of Congress,” Fischbach continued to insist that he talk to other Democrats about doing the same.

“Will you please denounce Trump for sending a mob here on January 6?” McGovern interjected.
“January 6 is not happening right now,” Fischbach quickly replied. “And it’s my time, sir,” she added as McGovern continued to lay into his point.
The three lawmakers continued to spar with Raskin reminding Fischbach: “you’re aware that Democrats have received those threats too…”
“I recognize that all of us have,” she said.
Raskin then took the opportunity to conclude: “We should all denounce, and we should all work against it, not just in the legislative branch, but the judicial branch as well.”
