The internet was shocked Wednesday after President Donald Trump gave a Black History Month speech at the White House, where he made some questionable comments about the late Rev. Jesse Jackson and his new ballroom — followed by the crowd chanting for him to stay in office.
Trump was speaking on the Black community's contributions to American society and called the late Civil Rights leader "a piece of work" while attempting to memorialize Jackson.
"He was a good man, he was a real hero, and I just want to pay my highest respects," Trump said.
People had plenty of responses to Trump's comments and the crowd.
"Thats some punk s--- Disrespecting our departed elder...and in front of those bootlicking sellouts in the room...shame," user Mar wrote on X.
"Typical of the so-called president to call a legendary leader who passed on only yesterday a 'piece of work.' That's how low Trump is," radio announcer and citizen journalist Stew Berger wrote on X.
"Trump’s version of a 'tribute' is to simultaneously insult them," Liberal political commentator Vince Wilson wrote on X.
"I wonder how much they were paid," Dr. Carmen G. Rodriguez-Tucker wrote on X.
"I'm convinced they get staffers to hoot and holler at every one of his events so he doesn't have a sad that nobody cheered him on..." screenwriter Michael Hager wrote on Bluesky.
"All I see is lots and lots of white hands with phones, very little diversity or representation," user John Novio wrote on Bluesky.
"I want to know the names of the cultist attending. Any Black or Brown person still backing this evil demented child rapist Nazi needs to have his/her/their face shown on every media outlet. Name & shame," Howard University graduate Angele wrote on Bluesky.
"Wouldn't be Black History Month without a white, privileged man ranting," user tj312 wrote on Bluesky.
