President Donald Trump on Monday blamed Brown University over his own FBI for failing to catch the suspect in a mass shooting at the school.

Investigators on Monday were still searching for the gunman in the shooting that left two students dead and nine others injured over the weekend in Providence, Rhode Island, CNN reported.

"It's always difficult. So far, we've done a very good job of doing it, with Charlie [Kirk], with the various times this has happened. They've done it pretty much in record time. You'd really have to ask the school about that," Trump said, suggesting that the university had somehow mismanaged the initial investigation.

"This was a school problem," Trump added, noting they had their "own guards, their own police, their own everything."

"You'd have to ask that question to the school, not to the FBI," he said.

Trump on Saturday was forced to issue a correction for his own public statement after the president falsely reported information about an active shooter.

Experts have criticized the FBI and the police's handling of the case. FBI Director Kash Patel had announced that a person of interest had been detained on Sunday, but police released him hours later, saying the evidence "now points in a different direction." It has now reset the investigation in its crucial early stages.
