A political strategist Monday slammed President Donald Trump and the media bosses who "submit to tyranny."
In a Substack essay, Steve Schmidt described Trump's attacks on journalists and how Trump and his family should be fearful for the future.
"What must please Trump as a predator and narcissist the most about his conquest of the corporate newsroom is the flattening of the smugness that judged him before appeasing him and begging him for a new beginning. The executives who appeased — and continue to appease — Trump are appalling," Schmidt wrote.
"All of them," he added.
"They have collaborated in the cause of disintegrating American liberty for money, ratings, access, and power. Mostly, they are Trump’s equal partners in the stupidest show ever seen," Schmidt wrote.
Schmidt pointed to how the lack of standards and bravery among media executives has contributed to where American journalism heads next.
"Their moral weakness, combined with insufferable arrogance, absolute certitude, and the deepest conviction about their moral superiority and intellectual brilliance, made them easy prey for the Trump family and MAGA," he wrote.
Schmidt described how the Trump family could expect things to change one day — and that this time would not last forever.
"In America, presidents have had the good sense to restrain their egos from naming buildings after themselves, but not so Trump. Because of that, his loathsome family of grifters can sit together and watch his name be peeled off everything they put it on. Everything," Schmidt wrote.
"America’s renewal will require remembering MAGA after we erase it, but make no mistake, it will all be erased. Filth is always possible to wipe away."
