'Comes off like an idiot': Trump mocked for stepping on good news with spelling error

Donald Trump was forced to correct a basic spelling error in a social media post touting Apple's massive investment in artificial intelligence facilities in the U.S.

The tech giant announced it will spend $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years, hire 20,000 workers and open a new factory in Texas as part of its push into AI, a week after its CEO Tim Cook met with the president, who hailed the investment Monday morning in a social media post with a glaring spelling mistake.

"Apple has just announced a record 500 billion dollar investment in the United States of America," Trump posted on Truth Social, using all capital letters. "The reason, faith in what we are doing, without witch, they would'nt be investing ten cents. Thank you Tim Cook and Apple!!!"

However, a swarm of social media copy editors pounced on his misspelling of "which," and Trump deleted that post and replaced it with the same message with the error corrected but retaining the misplaced apostrophe in the contraction of "would not."

"Great news on the Apple investment in the U.S. and all the new jobs," posted Bloomberg correspondent Scott Rose. "I worry that we're not investing enough in things like public education, WITHOUT WITCH it's going to be tough to find qualified employees."

"Even when he’s delivering positive news, he comes off like an idiot. #WithoutWitch," said AV Club writer Will Harris.

"It’s 'without which,'" added investment banker Evaristus Odinikaeze. "But I digress."

"Trump lies again that without him, Apple wouldn't invest 10 cents," posted self-professed "proud Democrat" Ron Smith. "In 2021, under the Biden administration, Apple invested $430 billion."
