Former Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has been contacted by the special counsel’s office in connection with Jack Smith’s investigation over former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, CNN reports.
A Ducey spokesman confirmed that the former governor had been contacted by Smith team, Kaitlan Collins reported for the cable channel’s website.
“Yes, he’s been contacted. He’s been responsive, and just as he’s done since the election, he will do the right thing,” Daniel Scarpinato told CNN.
Collins notes that Trump assailed Ducey over the certification of the election Joe Biden won in the state decided by less than 11,000 votes.
Trump in November 2020 retweeted a post that claiming Ducey “betrayed” the state’s residents with an all-caps “TRUE!) reply.
Collins writes that “As Ducey was certifying the election results in November 2020, Trump appeared to call the governor – with a “Hail to the Chief” ringtone heard playing on Ducey’s phone. Ducey did not take that call but later said he spoke with Trump, though he did not describe the specifics of the conversation.”
