A California lawmaker with congressional aspirations on Tuesday trolled Ron DeSantis and Elon Musk over the Florida governor’s planned presidential bid launch.

DeSantis plans to announce his candidacy in an appearance on Twitter Spaces with Musk, the social media company’s CEO, at 6 p.m. ET Wednesday, NBC News reports.

The event will be moderated by tech reporter David Sacks, a Musk confidant and DeSantis backer.

State Sen. Scott Wiener assailed DeSantis over the Florida governor’s ongoing feud with Disney that led to the company abandoning plans to build a $1 billion campus that would have brought 2,000 jobs to the Sunshine State.

“Excited to see these two champions of California’s economic recovery teaming up,” Wiener tweeted.

“While I’ve criticized Elon for running one of my district’s anchor companies into the ground, he & Governor DeSantis deserve credit for the thousands of jobs they’ve brought to CA in recent months."

Wiener, a Democrat who represents the city of San Francisco and surrounding suburbs, is considering a run for the congressional seat currently held by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.). Pelosi has not yet announced whether she plans to run for reelection.
Wiener earlier this year launched an exploratory committee that allows him to raise money and take additional measures to determine whether a candidacy is viable, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Wiener said in a statement obtained by The Chronicle that Pelosi “is one of the most effective and transformational leaders we’ve ever had. I am and will continue to be grateful to have her as my representative in Congress for as long as she is willing to serve. I’m exploring my options for a potential congressional run in the event she decides to step down.”

The Chronicle reports that as state senator, “Wiener has championed numerous bills aimed at dramatically boosting California’s housing production, as well as bills focused on civil liberties and the LGBTQ community.”
