'Probably shredding as we speak': Fed-up Comer prods Trump DOJ on Epstein files

House Committee Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) on Tuesday escalated his criticism of the Trump Justice Department in a new interview where he questioned whether government officials are deliberately blocking the release of the long-awaited Epstein files – and whether the files even still exist.

“Hopefully, someone has a copy of that, and I hope we find out because our task force has done everything,” he said.

Speaking to right-wing podcaster Benny Johnny, Comer expressed doubt over whether the Department of Justice or Attorney General Pam Bondi has the Epstein files, suggesting if she did, "she would have turned them over.”

“The president ordered them released, the attorney general ordered them released. We all know they have not been released,” Comer said Tuesday. He also expressed fears that the files may have been destroyed by what he repeatedly referred to as the “deep state.”

“One of my biggest fears that I had, and I expressed this with Kash Patel…and a lot of people going into the new administration was I’m like, ‘I hope they’re not shredding documents right now,” Comer said. “But you all need to go on your first day and try to get all this stuff released.”

He added: “Because my fear is, from what I’ve dealt with in investigations and communication with this deep state apparatus, is they’re probably in there shredding documents as we speak.”

The MAGA lawmaker went on to praise Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), who heads his Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, but added: “She’s pretty frustrated right now that these files haven’t been released.”
