MSNBC panel calls subpoena of Trump Organization's CFO devastating to president: 'He knows where all the financial bodies are buried'
In a panel discussion Thursday, MSNBC host Katy Tur walked through the ways in which Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg's subpoena could be the president's undoing.
A former employee told Tur, as the top accountant, Weisselberg is the top staffer at the company who is not related to the family.
"He knows where all the financial bodies are buried within the Trump Organization," the former staffer said. "He knows Donald Trump's net worth. Any expenditure was approved by Allen."
The Wall Street Journal reported that such expenditures include the reimbursements to Michael Cohen for payouts to women alleging they'd had affairs with Trump. Given that he's the Trump "money man," he also has information on the tax records the president has refused to let the public see.
Weisselberg was mentioned by Cohen in the audio recording that were made public by Cohen's lawyers.
Washington Post reporter Phil Rucker revealed that Weisselberg's history with the Trumps goes back to the president's father, Fred Trump.
Trump biographer David Cay Johnston said Wednesday that there are many more women, some of whom are well-known to the public. He also alluded to the possibility of giving cash to friends who paid for abortions for former lovers.
Daily Beast reporter Betsy Woodruff told Tur that this is "about as close as you can get to subpoenaing Trump's tax returns."
