Texas attorney general candidate George P. Bush has been touting his relationship with former President Donald Trump early in his campaign, despite the fact that Trump regularly humiliated his father, Jeb Bush, during the 2016 Republican primary.
A CNN panel on Thursday heaped scorn on the young Bush for embracing Trump in spite of the twice-impeached one-term president's attacks on his own family.
CNN's Dana Bash said that Jeb Bush can't possibly be happy to see his own son buttering up the man who once infamously described him as "low energy" on the campaign trail.
"This has to be the most bitter pill to swallow," she said.
"I think it's pretty pathetic on [George P. Bush's] part to kiss Donald Trump's ring in this way," added political analyst Nia-Malika Henderson. "There's no bottom to the kind of loyalty he'll have to show to get Donald Trump's approval."
Politico reporter Rachael Bade then predicted that Trump would further humiliate the Bush family by declining to even endorse George P. Bush.
"It's so desperate it's gross," she said. "It probably won't make a difference. Trump always goes back to his gut and he hates the Bush family."
