Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) on Tuesday made a series of bizarre and false accusations against Dr. Anthony Fauci during an appearance on One America News.

Gohmert's rant about Fauci was prompted by an OAN host who speculated that America's top infectious disease expert secretly wants the COVID-19 pandemic to continue indefinitely "so that he can be on TV."

Gohmert replied with a fact-free broadside against Fauci and said he should be held "accountable" for supposedly funding China's biological weapons capabilities.

"[He's] the textbook example of 'often wrong but never in doubt,'" Gohmert complained. "We need to have somebody besides Fauci making the call. He still needs to be accountable for the $3 million he sent to Wuhan clinic to work on potential making biological weapons. We need to know from him why in the heck would you ever do that -- you may have been complicit in this whole disaster!"

In fact, there is no evidence that Fauci funneled millions of dollars to the Chinese military to create bioweapons.

As has reported, "false claims that the Wuhan lab had received $3.7 million in National Institutes of Health grant money have circulated online after an April 11 Daily Mail story made that assertion."

In reality, however, "the NIH didn't award such a grant" but instead "gave a grant totaling $3.4 million, beginning in 2014, to the U.S.-based EcoHealth Alliance to study the risk of the future emergence of coronaviruses from bats... EcoHealth distributed $600,000 of that total to the Wuhan Institute of Virology."
