If Republican House members are expecting the dual investigations into President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden to impact the 2024 election, they may have missed the boat according to public relations experts.
With some Republicans admitting they hope the investigation into Hunter Biden's finances and the impeachment inquiry poised to be conducted against President Biden are both meant to help Donald Trump win re-election in 2024, the court of public opinion may see it differently.
In interviews with Newsweek, public relations experts claimed the Hunter Biden onslaught is not playing well with the general public.
According to public relations expert Richard Laermer, "[House Republicans] will continue to fight. And it will hurt them in the election with voters who are starting to tire of a do-nothing majority in the House. Optics is the word. Because they're all bad for the GOP contingency when it comes to Hunter. GOP plans for him are falling apart, PR-wise."
Communications consultant James Haggerty praised Hunter Biden for his appearance before the press in front of the U.S. Capitol where he called out the GOP House leadership for not letting him be deposed in public view, with Haggerty calling it "a bold change in strategy" adding the the president's son went, "... from dodging and weaving to a full-throated challenge to Congressional Republicans to fight things out in public."
Haggerty continued by stating, "Advantage Biden."
Laermer chipped in, "[House Republicans] wasted a lot of valuable media time discussing 'the contents' rather than getting Hunter in then. It did not seem to be a cohesive strategy. The laptop became a national joke! How could a punchline possibly help the GOP when they're trying so hard to embarrass the president?"
Calling both investigations a "PR nightmare" for Republicans, Laermer elaborated, "Our country is a mess. The world is watching our every move, and House Republicans are executing on nothing but going after Biden and his son. I get 'the Trump trials are a witch hunt' line being bandied about by the GOP. Yet the populace—and in particular the voters—can tell apples from oranges."
